So! Do you think you can come up with THE caption for this cartoon? Do you think your caption will be more funny than your peers? HA!
HA HA!!
Welcome to the New Yorker Caption Contest Summer League!! Every week we will post the cartoon for the New Yorker Caption Contest. You will contribute money to a pool. All entrants will contribute money to the pool. There will be a lot of money. Winner takes all. You will send in your caption for the cartoon to both this blog and to the New Yorker Caption Contest. The New Yorker will judge your caption and your peers will judge your caption. The winner takes all. You might be wondering, "What are the rules?"
The Rules
1. Winner takes all!
2 The season starts on June 1st. We will start with the first cartoon after June 1st.
3 The season ends August 31st. We will not compete with any cartoons after August 31st.
4. Get your money to me, Jamie or Charlie. There is a $10 entry fee. My name is Stewart Haddock. You can send me an email (messed up for the spammers: stewart @ the haddocks . com ... well, it was not that messed up, now was it??) I will hold the money.
5. Every Monday I will post the cartoon for the contest
6. You have until 11:59pm Sunday to send in your caption. Send your posts to me.
7. I will post all the captions to this blog Monday.
8. Everyone will vote on the what they think is the best caption. Give two points to your favorite caption. Give one point to your second favorite caption. You can vote for your own entry. Send your votes to me by the following Sunday at Midnight.
9. I will notify you of the winning caption and who entered it.
9. I will keep track of the total score, but I will keep this to myself until the end of the season.
10. At the end of the season, the person with the most points wins. Winner takes all!
11. Now! If the New Yorker picks your cartoon for the final three, that trumps the final score of your peers. So, if you make it to the final three during week seven and no one else makes it to the final three, then you win the Summer League Contest outright. Who cares what your peers think.
12. However, if someone else makes it to the final three then you would be considered tied for first. If, at the end of the season, you and that fucker who also made it to the final three are tied with your New Yorker score, then final score of your peers will determine who wins the game.
13. Winner takes all!
14. There will be a party or a gather or an exhale when the season is over.
15. The rules of the game might need to be tweaked as the season progresses. No whining about lack of fairness and no suing. Got that? You can not play this game if you think there is a remote possibility that you might sue me. Yes, I like you but I do not trust you and that is very sad.
